A press conference on 03-02-2018 was held at the Cathedral Church on The Mall Road in Lahore, Pakistan, to address the critical issue of the non-declaration of statistics on religious minorities in the national census. The press conference was led by a distinguished group of religious leaders and advocates, including Moderator Bishop Humphrey Peter (Bishop of Peshawar), Deputy Moderator Bishop John Samuel (Bishop of Faisalabad), Bishop Leo Paul (Bishop of Multan), Bishop Azad (Bishop of Raiwind), Bishop Kaleem John (Bishop of Hyderabad), Bishop Alwin (Bishop of Sialkot), and Bishop Irfan Jameel (Bishop of Lahore) – all prominent bishops from the Church of Pakistan.
The event also featured Mr. Imran Titus Bhatti, Coordinator of the Church of Pakistan, Kashif Alexander, Advocate High Court and Legal Consultant to the Church of Pakistan, Mr. Anthony Ajaiz Lamuel, General Secretary of the Bible Society of Pakistan, and General Secretary of "The Synod" Church of Pakistan.
During the press conference, the speakers voiced their concerns over the absence of accurate data on religious minorities, particularly Christians, in Pakistan’s recent census. They highlighted how this omission undermines the representation and rights of religious minorities and impedes efforts to address their socio-economic needs. The bishops and speakers called for immediate action to ensure that the statistics of minorities are properly documented, as this data is crucial for effective policymaking and resource allocation for marginalized communities. The event underscored the urgency of having accurate, inclusive census data to better advocate for the rights and well-being of religious minorities in Pakistan.
